Kobe Birthday

I'm now six years closer to 30, my "ideal" age. In 2017 I envision myself being through with all my degrees and certifications I want to attain, settled in a career, finances in order and starting a family possibly.  But in the meantime I'm stuck at 24.

Had thoughts of doing this blog post all weekend with no particular goal in mind and I realized I didn't take any birthday pictures, which was on Friday. I'd done the regular work-and-school thing, then attended the annual fashion show the Black Students Union put on at my school.  Last year I didn't go but my friends Christine and Akil were walking, so I wasn't missing it. Albeit my digital camera was full and my video cam takes crappy five megapixel pictures. Unfortunately, I can't take the images from my head and post 'em. =/ Twas a great show though! Hopefully I can edit the post with a YouTube upload. I know someone had to have taped it.

But back to being 24...

This year style-wise I really want to cut out the impulse and trendy buying.  The dress I wore on Friday was very much both of those things.  Got it the day before after I had vowed I'd just wear something I already owned and had never worn. So much for that! The dress'll be great for the summer but I don't predict wearing it out as I get older.

Wore it with black tights and my Steve Madden Dynastee's

I'm always pretty sure about what I like and what suits my body; it's just time to rewire my brain to reconfigure my style in something much more demure without losing the edge and fun I like to add to my looks. I can't wait for it to warm up so I can experiment, and try things I usually wouldn't wear. Mentioned in a previous post I'd gotten a caftan dress from Zara and that's probably my first out-of-the-box buy for the summer I'm dying to wear with  these beauties called Rego from Steve Madden.

Side Note: wedges are gonna be my go-to-heels for this summer.

With that said, I took some pics a few minutes ago, to add some color to the post, in a sailor-inspired look but in a non-traditional color palette.

Top & Shorts: H&M, Wedges: Steve Madden, Sunnies: Forever21

Red and green are complimentary colors so they look great together. Snakeskin print in khaki and olive tones blend right in

I can totally see myself doing this look for the summer. But I need new olive shorts. Seems I've gained some weight over the winter. =/

Extra Ventilation

So I'm going to get straight to the point: what's up with people, both male and female, wearing jeans that are ripped in the crotch??

About a month ago I'm jumping into my favorite pair of Old Navy jeans and heard the God-awful ripping noise. This was the result:

My sister was laughing at me while I felt like crying. Not because it may be an indication that I grew out of them, but because they were my go-to jeans; quite a departure from the hate I once had for them when my mom bought them some years ago.  I knew I had to retire them. No way in hell was I going to embarrass myself. What if they ripped even more?? So here I am with these thoughts and then I see a girl on the train last night with my rip x 10! o_0

Now, this isn't the first time I've seen someone do it. I'd been even more amazed one time when I saw a guy do it seeing that they have "hanging parts", and he was dressed quite dapper.  That immediately changed my perception of him. Doesn't one's level of self-consciousness go on red alert when we have a rip so close to the area we wear clothes to cover in the first place? Or does the built-in air conditioning feel so good it outweighs that?? Not to mention it just looks untidy. I don't get it. Unless it happened to you while you were out and it's no intentional. I've seen someone put more rips in their jeans to make it look like a "style", so I know people wear it consciously. -_-

Destroyed denim is hot. Ripped crotches? Not so much.

It's Here!

For awhile I've been wanting to get a video camera, especially since it would be a cool tool to have for adding another dimension to this blog.  Originally wanted a Flip but after some research I decided on the Kodak Zi8 since it had 1080 dpi resolution compared to the Flip.

But enough of the technical stuff. Shot a quick video earlier this week just to try it out. Here it is:

Feel free to subscribe to my YouTube channel even though I don't make videos frequently.  That should change in the future though.

Posts have been scanty lately but it's midterm season so a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do! Look out for new posts this week though; by hell or high water I'll find time to update.

Just a Filler

Nothing like a bathroom pic. Lol Friday's look: H&M sweater and tights. Tretorn rainboots unseen

There's so much that happened over the course of last week that I don't know where to start. From random BBM conversations with the Get Julu'd ladies to pursuits, an event and a style crisis, I've got enough material to do several posts. Instead, I'll keep it brief and mention the highlights of the week:

The Meet of the Matter

Had no clue what to wear!

It's amazing how time flies by.  Seems as though it was only a few days ago I sat typing an email to the prospects for this Get Julu'd project.  In all actuality it had been three weeks and we were all excited to finally meet up this past Saturday; we'd been exchanging BBMs in the meantime so we were well acquainted with each other.

If you live in NYC you know we had two gorgeous Spring teasers on Thursday and Friday. Saturday, however, was a completely different story! Twas freezing and I'm sure all of us ladies would've rather been wrapped up in bed. Nothing a good ole Texas-sized drink from Dallas BBQs couldn't fix though!
